Amelia Earhart birthday celebrated after 115 years - July 24, 1897

Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, was born on this day 115 years ago (July 24, 1897). She flew a Lockheed Vega 5b from Newfoundland, Canada, to Culmore, Northern Ireland, in 1932.

The intrepid pilot disappeared over the Pacific in 1937 while trying to fly around the world. No trace of Amelia, or her aircraft, has ever been found.

A Google doodle was on the company's home page to celebrate her birthday.
