A couple dialled the UK emergency number 999 for an ambulance to save their 5-year-old - but they failed to say that it was their cat.
Medics raced to the scene believing a child was in danger from a heart attack, only to find the couple cradling their five-year-old pet, which later died.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: ‘We would remind people that 999 is a lifeline.’
