Horse rescued by lifeboat - swims half a mile out to sea after being spooked

An RNLI inshore lifeboat crew was called out to save a horse that was swimming more than half mile off the coast of Kent in the English Channel.

The horse called Shallimah had thrown its rider after being spooked and then decided to go for a swim off Sandwich.

Walmer lifeboat helmsman Andrew Howland said: "This was one of the most unusual rescues I've carried out."
