Crazy laws in Italy - even building a sandcastle on the beach can be illegal

Building a sandcastle, ball games on the beach and even collecting shells and sand are all illegal at Eraclea near Venice, Italy.

They are just some of the crazy Italian by-laws, listed by the Telegraph, that can catch the unsuspecting traveller. They also cost a packet in fines if you are caught.

Other illegal activities in some towns include:

. Having noisy sandals

. Amorous embraces in parked cars

. An unattended towel put down to beat the Germans to a good beach spot

. Feeding pigeons in Venice

. Sitting on the steps of a monument
