Denmark has told European officials that the Marmite ban was temporary because the importer has not applied for the necessary marketing licence.
Manufacturer Unilever has now been urged to submit an application. However, it could still be rejected by the Danes if they believe the amounts of added vitamins and minerals in the savoury yeast-extract spread broke their food laws.
The temporary ban has caused a storm among Marmite lovers, with some calling for a boycott of Danish goods.
