Teenager Joe Chute, from Slough, Berkshire, was quoted £72,000 to insure his Vauxhall Corsa worth just £600.
Joe, aged 18, had chosen the ancient 1.0 litre car because he thought it would be cheap to insure.
He told the Sun newspaper: "If I had that kind of money, I wouldn't need to drive. I could get taxis everywhere or hire a chauffeur."
