Cannabis cafes for Brighton? Yet another potty idea from a Green politician
The Green Party's Home Affairs spokesman in Brighton wants cannabis cafes in the city to cash in on the tourists who will shun Amsterdam when Holland bans foreigners from smoking pot in their coffee shops.
In a Telegraph report, Councillor Ben Duncan says: "Think of all the millions our shops and hotels would make if all those tourists being turned away from Amsterdam by the Dutch Tories came here to spend their holiday cash instead!"
It's yet another potty idea from the Greens in Brighton, of course. And if they really wanted to promote tourism, they would not have increased parking charges on the seafront to such ridiculous levels that tourists are shunning the resort in their droves.
There again, I suppose it wouldn't be a good idea to encourage the sort of tourists Coun Duncan wants in the city to drive – especially if they are as high as kites.
Coun Duncan needs to go to Amsterdam to ask why they are reversing their pot policy. But then, maybe the idea came to him when he was in one of their coffee shops.
So, what next from the Greens? A wind farm in the Pavilion gardens?

Close shave with a grizzly bear - tourist encounter in Alaska - amazing pictures
Tourists thought they were watching bears salmon fishing from a safe distance in Alaska's Katmai National Park.
Then a huge grizzly charged at them and the 10 tourists and a guide froze – which is fortunate because the grizzly was just being nosey. It circled them, sniffed one the group's hoods and finally wandered off.
Wildlife experts say that bear attacks are rare. Most occur when there are only one or two people in the area.

Monster crocodile gives tourists a fright - two ton beast called Brutus snapped by photographer
A monster croc nicknamed Brutus gave tourists a fright when it burst from the waters of the Adelaide River in Australia.
The tourists had paid for a close-up view of crocodiles, but got much more than their money's worth from the 18ft monster - and photographer Katrina Bridgeford got a brilliant snap.

Cheeky monkey steals camera and shoots himself - brilliant self-portrait pictures
Give a cheeky monkey a camera and eventually he'll snap some brilliant self portraits.
That's what wildlife photographer David Slater, from Coleford, Gloucestershire, discovered on a trip to a national park in Indonesian.
David's camera was stolen by a crested black macaque monkey who was fascinated by his own reflection in the lens. He managed to take hundreds of pictures before David could retrieve his equipment.
Reminds me of that great squirrel picture when another cheeky chap popped up in front of the lens as a couple of tourists tried to take their picture in Banff National Park.

Too sexy for my bike - New York cops pull over Dutch tourist for showing too much skin
DUTCH tourist Jasmijn Rijcken was pulled over by New York police for being too sexy on her bicycle.
Yeah, pull the other one! Perhaps the cops just wanted to chat. But no, according to Miss Rijcken: "I thought he was joking around but he got angry and asked me for ID."
One NYPD officer said her skirt was too short and could cause an accident. "He said it's very disturbing, and it's distracting the cars and it's dangerous." Another said she was showing too much skin.
She was wearing a short frilly skirt and, seeing her picture, I think they might have had a point.
A friend of mine once crashed his car into the back of another (both drivers unhurt) while distracted by "too much skin" on the pavement (sidewalk).
And when in Rome recently, I watched a huge jam build up as a cop who was supposed to be directing traffic watched a stunning lady go by - temperatures were rising inside the cars, especially when the male drivers spotted the cause of the build up!

Dutch to ban sale of cannabis to tourists in 'coffee shops'
The sale of cannabis to tourists in Holland is to be banned - and it could mean the end of a liberal approach to soft drugs.
So, the experiment has finally gone wrong... I never thought it would end on a high.
Even the Dutch themselves could face restrictions on the sale of marijuana by the end of the year as the government tries to promote health and fight crime.
Amsterdam has about 220 coffee shops. Some have been closed in the red light district. A few border towns have already restricted the sale of cannabis to foreigners in an attempt to stop drug tourism.
"In order to tackle the nuisance and criminality associated with coffee shops and drug trafficking, the open-door policy of coffee shops will end," said officials.
