Shopping centre allows photography after internet campaign

Several shopping centres in the UK are to allow customers to take photographs on their premises after an internet campaign.

Father Chris White had been challenged and questioned by police for taking a picture of his 4-year-old daughter eating an ice cream in Glasgow's Braehead shopping centre in Scotland.

Mr White said a police officer warned him that anti-terrorism powers meant his camera phone could be confiscated. So, he set up a Facebook page called "Boycott Braehead", which was immediately "liked" by thousands of people.

Capital Shopping Centres said the new rules would apply immediately to its 11 UK shopping centres, according to the BBC.

It follows a conference and expedition to track down the Abominable Snowman in the Mount Shoria area, according to a Mail report.

The claim rests on an unclear footprint and a small sample of 'hair' found at the cave.

But the idea has already been branded as an attempt to boost tourism as there is no convincing photographic or DNA evidence.

Dramatic pictures, Lake District, Cumbria, England

Just come back from the Lake District on a very damp and windy week. But the sun did break through at times and the weather did at least mean some dramatic pictures, with stormy clouds hanging over the fells and rays of sunshine lighting up the landscape.

This picture was taken using the superb Canon 7D digital camera and a 24mm-70mm L lens. While both are supposed to be weatherproof (up to a point), I tucked them away in a plastic liner inside a rucksack (it's expensive gear) as I climbed up mountain tracks.

Only just managed to get this picture as the sun broke through the black clouds and I scrambled into the rucksack.

This second picture is taken with an Olympus XZ-1, a very handy camera to carry around. Use RAW, though... the JPGs are not so good.

The shot is of Ullswater at Glenridding, from where steamers sail across the lake. It was just a hop, skip and a jump from where I stayed (The Glenridding Hotel), hence the small camera tucked into my pocket just in case of photo opportunities as I strolled down to the lake before dinner.

Flat calm and colourful: Ullswater near Patterdale, Cumbria.
Canon 7D again, 24mm-70mm L lens.

World's fattest woman wants to be fatter - 52 stones (728 pounds) and growing - Arizona, US

Susanne Eman, of Casa Grande, Arizona, USA, eats 20,000 calories a day and is the fattest woman in the world at 52 stones (728 pounds). Now she is trying to get even fatter, according to the Sun.

The 32-year-old wants to be an enormous 115 stones (1,610 pounds). "The bigger I get, the better I feel," she says. "I feel confident and sexy". Susanne would then beat Carol Yager, of Flint, Michigan, who is thought to have reached 114 stone before she died in 1994 aged just 34.

According to the Sun, Susanne is already heavier than three baby elephants - or the combined weight of the four-man Manchester United defence.

UK riots: some sentences 'too severe', say MPs and justice campaigners

Some of the sentences handed out to people involved in the UK riots are too severe, according to MPs and justice campaigners.

Liberal Democratic MP Tom Brake believes they should be about "restorative justice" not retribution.

But a Tory MP disagrees. Gavin Barwell said a clear message should be sent that the country would not tolerate such behaviour.

Two men have been jailed for four years for using Facebook to incite riots and another man has been given an 18 month sentence for having a stolen television.

In my opinion, we should edge to wards "zero tolerance". Harsh sentences are justified if they stop looters and rioters.
