Rare US coin could be worth $4 million – gold $3 found in book now up for auction

A rare American $3 gold coin could be worth about $4 million when it is sold at auction next month – and, amazingly, it was found in 1997 by a tourist inside a souvenir book at a shop in San Francisco.

Only two 1870-S coins were made by the San Francisco mint – to be placed at the cornerstone of a public building. The coin up for sale was made from a special cast that had an 'S' carved into it, which is why the $3 piece is so rare.

Beatles pictures found in family album after 50 years - now up for auction

Twenty unpublished black and white pictures of the Beatles are to go for auction after being found lying around in a family album for nearly 50 years.

They were taken behind the scenes during the filming of 'A hard Day's Night' in 1964.

Taking pictures on the set was banned to stop leaks of new material, but the props manager at Pinewood Studios, Peter Allchorne, was able to walk around with a Kodak Retinette camera.

He thought they were just another band larking about on set and didn't even like their music.

The photos go on sale in Stockport, Cheshire, on May 19.

A remarkable collection of 345 comics belonged to Billy Wright, who bought the issues when he was a boy. It was found when Mr Wright died and a relative was clearing the basement of his home in Virginia, USA.

World's most expensive Cognac - Napoleon's bottle goes to auction

A Cognac that travelled with Napoleon Bonaparte on his conquests around Europe - and the last of its kind - is to be auctioned. And, at a whopping £114,500, it could become the most expensive Cognac in the world.

Made in 1795, it is among about 5,000 unopened bottles of spirits, worth about £5 million, belonging to a Dutch collector, Bay Van der Bunt.

Mr van der Bunt bought the hand-blown six-litre Jeroboam bottle from a Chicago collector in 1990 for £20,000.

He said: 'It travelled with Napoleon's army. You can just see it there lying with the others in the hay cart. After the battle – and probably before – the officers would drink from it.'

Mr van der Bunt will apparently vet prospective buyers to make sure the Cognac goes to a collector and isn't drunk!

Titanic captain's cigar box found in England - strange, didn't it sink with him?

On April 14, 1912, At 11:40PM, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank two hours and forty minutes later, killing an estimated 1,500 people.
The captain, Edward John Smith (left), went down with the ship and his body was never recovered.

Now, a cigar box once owned by the captain has apparently been discovered gathering dust on a bedroom cabinet in a house in Merseyside, England.

The walnut humidor is expected to fetch between £10,000 and £20,000 at auction in Liverpool today.

Just one question: didn't he take it with him? Perhaps he was dying for a smoke and couldn't concentrate...
