Bird eaten by plant - dead blue tit found in Monkey Cup pitcher

A blue tit was killed by a Nepenthes x mixta (Monkey Cup pitcher) carnivorous plant, according to a Sun story.

The plants, native to South East Asia, usually eat insects but have been known to consume mice in the wild. It is highly unusual for them to kill fully-grown birds.

The plant had been cultivated by Chelsea Flower Show prize winner Nigel Hewitt Cooper, of West Pennard, Somerset.
